Online Identity

Hiding your identiy online is easy. But as its is so easy people can change their name age and appearance all online so you cannot be sure who you are talking to in internet chatrooms. The fact that it is easy for paedophiles to access chatrooms and find innocent victims. By not actually seeing the person you are talking to then people can create a persona of whoever they want to be and who you think you are talking to isn't who they really are.
Revealing alot of personal information about yourself can be dangerous. With internet hackers people can steal your identity or use information about you and use it to their advantage. Now many work companies use social networking sites such as Facebook to find out whether they would be suited for the job or not which makes you wonder if that is wrong and to much of an invasion of someones privacy.

  2. Hi Laura,
The growth of young people's use of the Inet is actually in SNS -where the expectation is that people are pretty much what they claim to be. If people complain that you're not behaving as you ought, you will be ejected from the site. (Check out the rules of say MySpace, Blogger, Facebook etc.)

Whilst unsavoury things do occur online -and IRL as a result, they are just the things that sell papers -and always have done since way before the Inet.

  3. I completely agree with this blog Laura.

It is so easy to make up an identity and lie via the internet, its not hard to do this with a non physical contact, its quite scary thinking about how many people online pretend to be someone else.

I also agree with the companies and facebook comment, I have heard stories about how people are fired from their jobs because of what bosses have seen or read on their favebook profile. I just don't like the way you can be pretty much stalked and spied on!
