Looking at 'The Independent's' online message boards you can make assumptions about people. The members that leave comments under different names I would consider to be young as they grew up in a age of the internet. Whereas the members that use their whole name I would assume to be older. Many of the comments to the stories posted are heavily criticised for the way they are written and people are not afraid to express if they do not agree with the journalists. I think you can tell by the comments posted the kind of person it is as the more formal a comment then the more serious a person. You can also tell how up to date with the news someone is by the comments they make and how much they know about the latest news.
I think online message boards are a good idea as it gives people a chance to express their opinion which in real life they may not express as they don't have an opportunity or are afraid that people will disagree with what they say. Online you can disagree and express your own opinion more easily as people cannot actually talking to someone face to face.

do you often post on the independant message board?
ReplyDeletewhen/if you do, do you try and sound formal/experience, like you know what you're talking about? Or does it not really matter to you?

I have a few times and I think I try and sound more formal than if I was writing on a messgae board on nme as I feel more intellectual people will be on the website and am worried I sound thick. I would only comment on a matter if I felt strongly enough about an issue and would make sure I had a clear understandin of the topic I was commenting on before I worte about it.

Hi Laura, I don't see to be able to see comments on your latest blog? Nor comment on it. Given your infrequent contributions, tis isn't helping your cause. Do you know why that might be?
