question 6

Journal 3

This journal concentrates on the vast expansion of Facebook. It looks at the impact Facebook has had on society and how we are entering a new stageof communication. It states taht although Facebook was origianlly used by the demographic 18 - 24 year olds it has now become a global phenomenom and people younger and older are setting up accounts. Although i feel this is a very good article it almost feels like there is a generalisation of the Facebook members. It also concentrates mainly on American Facebook members so generalising the other 175 million members on Facebook from all over the world.

  1. I think facebook is a good argument to use against articles that state 'students' form the majority of digital natives... my mums on facebook and shes definately not a digital native!

  2. Using CMC wasn't Prensky's point though was it? He claimed that learning how to use it was like learning a language, -unnoticed by 'native-speakers'. He also claims a strong technodeterminist argument about how that 'language' alters the way we think (sort of like the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis) such that learning anything with a 'foreign (immigrant) language is difficult.
